Take a Peek Inside Issa Rae’s Los Angeles Insecure Fest

HBO knows how to kick off a season premiere right, especially when it comes to Insecure. Following up last year’s premiere block party in Inglewood, Calif., the network moved the bash to Banc of California Stadium in downtown Los Angeles Saturday to celebrate the premiere of the hit show’s season three.

“It’s a stadium party! It’s crazy,” Yvonne Orji, who play attorney Molly on the show told us Saturday. The comedic star who always makes us laugh whenever we see her, gave us major flamenco chic vibes in an off-the-shoulder, tiered white top, paired with high-waist shorts and a pair of bright yellow Sergio Rossi heels we were swooning over.

“I told my stylist Apuje it’s going to be hot. We’re going to be outside,” she said as she gave us the lowdown on her look. “I need to be casual and comfortable because I want to change out of these Sergio Rossi’s and I’m going to put on some sneakers by Michael Kors, and going to see me getting on the dance floor.”

“So I said, I need something where I don’t feel restrained, so that I can feel cool in the element. And he was like, ‘I got you.’ I saw this, I tried it on, I’ve got a little flamingo arm. I was like, bailamos,” she said as she sang Bailamos and hit a salsa move. “And I felt it.”

Meanwhile, her BFF, show creator and star Issa Rae, brought all the lemonade to the bash as she showed off her snatched figure in a lemon-covered minidress and gold Sergio Rossi heels. “I just wanted to be bright and festive,” she said. “I like a little casual today. This is a music festival, so I just wanted to be able to dance and be cool.”

As Rae, Orji, and more of the cast headed up to a private VIP area, Insecure fans and industry peeps flooded the stadium’s floor at the invite-only event for a day filled with carnival games, comfort food, and plenty of cocktails.

We hung out with friends and enjoyed the festivities too, as the event brought out the inner kids in us via a colorful slide, swings, bouncy houses, and trays filled with cotton candy. There was also plenty to eat – thanks to the four food stations servings up massive turkey drumsticks, waffle fries, cheeseburgers, grilled veggies, and polish sausages.

Nearby, guests enjoyed cocktails from the bar, thanks to their wristbands that came with free drink tickets.  The event kept getting better as the evening went on. Rae and the rest of the cast introduced the screening of the premiere episode, and once it was over, 2 Chainz hit the stage and had everyone on their feet as he rapped several of his hits including “It’s Your Birthday” and “I’m Different.”

As for what you can expect in the first episode, we’re staying tight-lipped until it airs August 12th at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT, but we will say that it kicked off with a sex scene that had a surprise twist that made us laugh really loud.  If you’re wondering what season three will bring, Rae and the rest of the cast are keeping specifics under wraps too.

The media mogul wouldn’t confirm if Issa’s ex-boyfriend Daniel will return to the show, but she did say “this season, we’re going to see Issa trying to float above water, because she moved out of her apartment impulsively.”

She continued, “She moved in with Daniel, which is already like a, ‘why would you do that girl?’ She’s kind of like on thin ice with Joanna. So we just kind of see her make amends and get her life back together.” Amen for that.
