I’m the type of person who will try anything once (ahem, within reason), so when the opportunity came up to try Samsung’s new Revolution Galactic Attack at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, Calif. (about an hour outside of Los Angeles), I jumped at the chance.
Here’s the deal: It’s the world’s first mixed reality roller coaster experience, and you wear a virtual reality headset the whole time. As soon as the ride begins and you ascend up the first hill, your screen goes from a view of the roller coaster ahead to an intergalactic virtual reality world filled with alien drones. While you’re riding the coaster, the goal is to take down as many aliens as possible using your headset before the ride is done, and that takes the thrill-seeker level of the experience to a whole other level. Why? Because there are sharp twists, loops, and quick dips that you can’t even see coming while you’re playing the game.
Now…was I able to shoot more than one alien while I was on the ride? No. I screamed the entire time, my stomach was doing backflips, and my hands were glued to the handrail for the most part. This is definitely not the ride for the faint of heart (but, this is also me on every roller coaster ever invented…so there’s that).
Still, this was like no other rollercoaster experience I’ve ever had, and definitely worth the experience. If you happen to be in and around Los Angeles, and are a bit of a daredevil, this is one ride that is not to miss.
